DGAL FH GENERAL INFORMATION FOR EEE THREAT 09/02/2019
by posted 09/02/2019

As we are currently trying to juggle the 2019 game and practice schedules, we thought it would make sense to post a notice let everyone know how we plan to approach the current EEE threat and risk situation we are currently in.  For those that do not know, Courtney Cohen, Co-Commissioner of the DGAL Field Hockey league, is also a Health Inspector for the Board of Health in Dartmouth.  With that, we are able to keep tabs on where the State Department of Public Health, the Towns and ultimately the Dartmouth Schools stand on this, although, please recognize that there are constant moving pieces and we promise to do our best to keep everyone informed.

The Town of Dartmouth itself is currently listed at a Moderate Threat level for EEE and will likely remain at this status until we receive our first frost (which will potentially be in mid-October).  There are surrounding Towns to Dartmouth that are listed at a High or Critical Threat, including New Bedford, Freetown, Fairhaven, Acushnet, Rochester and Mattapoisett.  Westport, Fall River and Somerset are at a Moderate threat like Dartmouth.

Currently, the Dartmouth Public Schools have put a voluntary curfew on all School Activities to be 5:30pm.  They have not imposed this on Recreation Leagues in Town, even those that play on Town property.  However, we feel that it only makes sense to do our best to adhere to the 5:30pm curfew where possible or as close to this as feasible.  As a result, we ask that all Teams do there best to be off the fields by 6pm at the latest.  Also, we are researching moving games and practices to either indoor facilities i.e. Quinn Gymnasium or weekend daytime slots.  The delay in setting these times and locations includes confirming officials, janitors and availability.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
Sincerely,
DGAL Board
